THREE WISHES REVIEW

Happy Book Release, Deborah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THREE WISHES GOODREADS BLURB:

Tall and lanky, Genie Lowry is only noticed at academic awards assemblies—until the day she turns 17 1/2, when her body changes from Kate-Hudson-flat to Katy-Perry-curvy—and she finds out she’s a real, live genie. Suddenly, every guy at school is paying attention to her, including Pete Dillon, her never-in-a-million-years crush.

But to gain her full powers and keep her new body, Genie has to find a master, and she’s not sure if Pete’s Master (or Mr.) Right. With help from her dead mother’s interactive diary and an imposing mentor with questionable motives, Genie uncovers the family history and genie rules she never knew. She grapples with her new powers and searches for the perfect master as she tries to make her own wishes come true.

REVIEW:

This book.

Read it.

Here we go (I'll try not to spoil anything!):

First off, let's just say that I've read plenty of kick-ass heroines who aren't afraid to knock down the antagonist and inspire the reader. But it's really something when a novel has a kick-ass heroine who also makes quite large mistakes, is not afraid to show her vulnerability, and displays growth as she overcomes that all. There you have Eugenie Lowry, protagonist of THREE WISHES. She really is the kind of protagonist whom you cheer for as she learns to feel more comfortable in her own skin and you empathize with as she struggles to discover the love that she truly deserves (and it definitely helps that the love interest Joel is quite swoon-worthy :) ).

But what's so special about this book isn't just the subtle strength of the protagonist but the atmosphere.
A story can have great characters, plot, but be lacking in the atmosphere. Reading THREE WISHES distinctly felt like experiencing a fresh and new taste for the first time. The writing was crisp, the voice brisk yet somehow innocent, and the plot felt like a familiar friend in which you could take comfort, but it always managed to surprise you with a twist or turn in pacing. The story was not jaded in its genre, and the characters only used certain tropes initially before spring-boarding into living, breathing teens.

If you're searching for something that holds the timelessness of a classic yet simultaneously the exhilaration of living in the moment as a young adult, pick up THREE WISHES, and I'm sure you'll learn what I mean.

Three Wishes is available on BARNESANDNOBLE.COM, AMAZON.COM, ASTRAEAPRESS.COM, and other online book retailers.
